Moving an Existing Website to Zeniar
Learn how to move a website from another hosting provider to your Zeniar hosting account. The safest order is to copy everything across first and change your DNS last, so your website stays online throughout.
Steps
- At your current provider, download all of your website's files and export its database as a .sql file
- Log in to Plesk via your Zeniar Portal and check that your domain is listed under Websites & Domains. If it is not, see Adding a New Domain in Plesk
- Upload your website's files to the httpdocs folder. See Managing Files in Plesk File Manager or Connecting to Your Website via FTP-SSL
- Create a database and a database user. See Creating a New Database in Plesk
- Import your .sql file into the new database. See Importing a Database in phpMyAdmin
- Open your website's settings file and update the database name, user name and password to the new ones, with localhost as the database host
- Set the PHP version to match your old hosting. See Changing the PHP Version in Plesk
- Create each of your email accounts again so they are ready to receive mail. See Creating an Email Account in Plesk
- Point your domain to your Zeniar hosting. See Pointing Your Domain to Zeniar's Nameservers
- Install an SSL certificate once your domain is pointing to us. See SSL Certificate in Plesk
- Visit your website and check that every page, form and login works
Important: Keep your old hosting account active until your website and email are working with us. Email already stored at your old provider is not moved by changing DNS, so copy across any messages you need first.
