Fixing a 404 Not Found Error
Learn how to fix a 404 Not Found error. This error means the server could not find anything at the address that was requested. The page may have been moved, renamed or never uploaded.
Steps
- Check the address for typing mistakes. File and folder names on your hosting are case sensitive, so About.html and about.html are different files
- Log in to Plesk via your Zeniar Portal
- Select Files from the left-hand menu and check that the file exists in the folder that matches the address
- If your home page shows the error, check that index.html or index.php is in the folder your domain loads. See Setting the Document Root for Your Project in Plesk
- If you use WordPress and every page except the home page shows the error, save your permalink settings again. See Configuring WordPress Permalinks
- If your website uses a .htaccess file, check that it was uploaded. Files that start with a full stop are hidden on many computers and are easily left behind when copying a website
- If the page has moved to a new address, set up a redirect from the old one. See Setting Up a 301 Redirect in Plesk
Note: You can replace the standard 404 page with your own. See Customising HTML Error Pages in Plesk
Your page should now load without a 404 Not Found error.
