Fixing a 500 Internal Server Error
Learn how to fix a 500 Internal Server Error. This error means something went wrong while the server was running your website's code. The cause is recorded in your logs, so start there.
Steps
- Log in to Plesk via your Zeniar Portal
- Select Websites & Domains from the left-hand menu
- Click Logs under Dev Tools, reload your website so the error happens again, and read the newest lines. See Viewing Domain Logs in Plesk
- If the log mentions .htaccess, open Files, rename the .htaccess file to .htaccess-old and reload your website. If it loads, a line in that file is not valid
- If the log mentions a syntax error or an unsupported PHP version, change the PHP version to the one your website needs. See Changing the PHP Version in Plesk
- If the log mentions Allowed memory size exhausted, raise memory_limit. See Choosing the PHP Version and Settings for Your Project
- If the error started after you updated a WordPress plugin or theme, open WP Toolkit and switch that plugin or theme off. See Accessing WP Toolkit in Plesk
- If the error started after you changed files and you cannot find the cause, restore the last working version. See Restoring Your Website from a Backup in Plesk
Please note: If the error remains, copy the error line from your logs and send it to us. See Getting Help from Zeniar Support
Your website should now load without a 500 Internal Server Error.
