Fixing a 503 Service Unavailable Error

Learn how to fix a 503 Service Unavailable error. This error means the server is running but your website cannot answer at the moment. It is often temporary, for example while a service restarts or an update is being installed.

Steps

  1. Wait a moment and reload the page. If the error clears by itself, no action is needed
  2. If you use WordPress, check whether the website is in maintenance mode. See Enabling Maintenance Mode in WordPress with WP Toolkit
  3. If a WordPress update was interrupted, log in to Plesk, select Files, open httpdocs and remove the file named .maintenance
  4. If your website is a Node.js app, open Node.js under Dev Tools and click Restart App. See Building and Running a Node.js App in Plesk
  5. Click Logs under Dev Tools and read the newest lines for the cause. See Viewing Domain Logs in Plesk
  6. If the error started after you added a plugin or script, switch it off and reload your website

Please note: If the error does not clear, send us the time it started and any error lines from your logs. See Getting Help from Zeniar Support

Your website should now load without a 503 Service Unavailable error.
