Setting the Document Root for Your Project in Plesk
Learn how to change the document root in Plesk. The document root is the folder your domain loads when someone visits your website. Many AI-built projects keep their public files in a subfolder, such as public for Laravel or dist for a Vite build, and the document root needs to point to it.
Steps
- Log in to Plesk via your Zeniar Portal
- Select Websites & Domains from the left-hand menu
- Click the Hosting & DNS tab for your domain, then click Hosting
- In the Document root field, enter the folder that contains your main index.php or index.html file, for example httpdocs/public
- Click Save
- Visit your domain in a web browser to check that your project loads
Important: Do not move the files of a Laravel or similar project out of the public folder to make it load. Pointing the document root at public keeps your source code and settings files out of reach of visitors.
Note: Common values are httpdocs/public for Laravel and other PHP frameworks, and httpdocs/dist or httpdocs/build for a React, Vue or Vite build. If you are unsure, ask your AI tool which folder should be served to visitors.
Your domain now loads your project from the folder you selected.
