Using Custom Nameservers with Your Domain

Using Custom Nameservers with Your Domain

Learn how to set up custom nameservers, such as ns1.yourdomain.com.au, for a domain hosted with Zeniar. Most customers should use Zeniar's standard nameservers instead, as custom nameservers need to be updated by you whenever our server addresses change.

Important: Please email support@zeniar.com before you start so we can add the matching records to your domain's DNS zone. Custom nameservers won't work reliably without them.

Steps

  1. Email support@zeniar.com to request custom nameservers for your domain, and wait for us to confirm the records are in place
  2. Log in to your domain registrar's account (e.g. GoDaddy, Crazy Domains, VentraIP, etc.)
  3. Locate your domain and find the option to create host records. This may also be called Glue Records, Child Nameservers or Registered Nameservers
  4. Create the following host records:
    • ns1 — 115.64.200.17
    • ns2 — 203.59.99.119
  5. Navigate to the Nameservers section for your domain
  6. Remove any existing nameservers and enter ns1.yourdomain and ns2.yourdomain, using your own domain name
  7. Save your changes

Important: The address for ns2 is temporary while we complete our network move and will change to 115.64.200.18. We'll email you when it's time to update it.

Please note: Whenever our server addresses change, you'll need to update your host records with your domain registrar. Your website and email will stop working until they've been updated.

Please note: It can take up to 48 hours for nameserver changes to fully propagate across the internet.

Your domain is now using your own custom nameservers.

If you'd rather not maintain these yourself, see Pointing Your Domain to Zeniar's Nameservers.
