How LiteSpeed Speeds Up Your Website
Learn how LiteSpeed speeds up your website. Every website we host runs on the LiteSpeed web server. Some of its speed features work for every website from the start, and others need to be switched on for your website.
What Is Already Switched On
- HTTP/3 and HTTP/2 let browsers download many files from your website at once over a single secure connection
- Compression shrinks your pages, styles and scripts before they are sent, so there is less to download
- Fast PHP runs through LiteSpeed's own PHP handler, which starts quickly and copes well with busy periods
- Efficient file delivery sends images, styles and scripts straight from the server without running any code
What You Can Switch On
- Page caching is the biggest gain. Normally the server rebuilds a page for every visitor. With LiteSpeed Cache, a finished copy is saved and sent to the next visitor straight away. This is not switched on by default, because the server needs to be told which pages are safe to save
- Browser caching tells a visitor's browser to keep images, styles and scripts, so later pages load without downloading them again. See Setting Browser Caching for Images, CSS and JavaScript
Where to Start
- For WordPress, see Speeding Up WordPress with LiteSpeed Cache and then Choosing LiteSpeed Cache Settings for WordPress
- For Laravel, see Installing LiteSpeed Cache for Laravel
- For a custom website or one built with an AI tool, see Caching a Custom or AI-Built Website with LiteSpeed
- For Joomla, Drupal and other apps, see Using LiteSpeed Cache with Joomla, Drupal and Other Apps
Please note: Page caching suits pages that look the same for every visitor. Pages that show personal details, such as an account area or a shopping cart, must be left out. See Excluding Pages from the LiteSpeed Cache
